: INTERVIEW BRAN DOUGHERTY-JOHNSON, Saturday 13 June

Anthony Furlong - PASS IT ON!
Anthony Furlong - PASS IT ON!

PSST! is a collaborative film project in which the films are made in three parts. One artist begins the film, passes it on to the next person, who does the middle and then the ending is done by another team. There is no creative brief besides this process. So each team works on their own to create and react to the preceding parts of the "story."

Who is Bran ?

I am a Motion Graphic Designer and Animator who has worked in the industry for over 10 years, both in San Francisco and New York City. I now work independently as Grow Design Work as well as continue to freelance for many different Design studios. My own site is here: http://www.growdesignwork.com I also contribute to Motionographer http://www.motionographer.com and was recently an instructor at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

What's PSST PASS IT ON?

PSST! is a collaborative film project in which the films are made in three parts. One artist begins the film, passes it on to the next person, who does the middle and then the ending is done by another team. There is no creative brief besides this process. So each team works on their own to create and react to the preceding parts of the "story."

How did you got the idea for the project?

PSST!3 was the third edition of the film series, so after the success of the first two, I had many people interested in participating. I asked a lot of new artists to get involved as well as had many of the alumni from PSST!1 + 2 ... The final roster was over 175+ people in 50 teams.

Did everything ended up on the dvd or are there still people working on their project?

The DVD is the final version of all the films. They're done!

Can we expect a new PSST! project?

I'm very happy with what PSST! has accomplished in the Motion Graphic Design industry. Namely, set an example as a non-commercial and collaborative project in which artists were not competing with each other, but working together.

PSST! will probably shift focus if I continue it. I like the way the project has grown organically, but I may step back from doing it again next year. I'm pretty sure I will change the format in some way, and I may use it again for more independent work done by artists collaboratively ...

Where can people find more information about PSST or buy a dvd?

You can find the full credits for all the films, watch them and buy a DVD at http://www.psstpassiton.com

And now that Ive thought about it even more, whats a woman going to think when she finds out that Dr. Petes aiprte extravaganza wasnt even written by Dr. Pete? All successful relationships are based on plagiarism and deception, yes?How many Milli Vanilli fans have you met recently?Think just a little about it.Meanwhile, Ill go back to my lonely involuntary solitude and resume waiting to die.
