PLGR2010 Thanks to everybody!
inspiration: More pics comming soon!, Thursday 28 October

Time flies. We look back at Playgrounds Festival 2010 with a great sense of pride and satisfaction. Both days were sold out and thanks to all the visitors the atmosphere was great.
Of course we also had a great line-up of guests. We were happy big directors like Pierre Coffin (Despicable Me) and Rex Crowle (Little Big Planet) took the effort to come to Tilburg. Furthermore we were very excited about the great artist talks by BIF, Blender Foundation, James Medcraft, Minivegas, Nexus Productions, The Blackheart Gang, Shy the Sun and Zeitguised. All the speakers gave their presentations a personal touch and showed what it takes to create something beautiful. Very inspiring was the Young Directors Panel where David Wilson, Matt Lambert, Champagne Valentine and Radical Friend presented their work and told the audience about their inspirations. Also a joy to watch and listen to was the talk show of David O’Reilly and Fons Schiedon. With some bizarre, artistic and strange clips, it wasn’t your everyday talk show, but it certainly was interesting. Every night after the artist talks and screenings there was music in 013. With great acts like Lola Kite, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, The Subs, Daily Bread, Dearworld, TWR72, PVT, Walls, The Field and Loops Haunt. It were two great parties.
For the most part Playgrounds Festival 2010 took place in 013. Besides the artist talks and music there were also paper toy workshops by Dolly Oblong, an exhibition by Staynice and the screening of ‘Forget the film, watch the titles’ by SubmarineChannel. But there were more locations in Tilburg where artists showed their work. One of those locations was the ABN Amro building at the Spoorlaan. During the festival, each night, work from Minivegas, Baked Beans and other creatives was projected on the facade of the ABN-Amro-building. Also cinema MustSee and Theater De NWE Vorst were part of the festival. MustSee premiered the new 3-D animated Universal Studios movie ‘Despicable Me’ and in De NEW Vorst choreographer Helma Melis created and performed her experimental dance ‘Cornuto’.
At the end of Playgrounds Festival, for the third time in a row, the Playgrounds Festival Awards were handed out. Five prices were given to the best digital shorts of 2010. Fons Schiedon nabbed the Best Dutch Motion Design Award for his short film ‘In a Forest’. Patrick Jean won the Award for Best Digital Short Independent for his movie ‘Pixels’ and the Amsterdam based bureau Post Panic got the Award for Best Digital Short Applied for their MTV Rocks idents. Every year there’s also a price for the best student. This time the Award for Best Student went to Yi Zhoa from AKV St.Joost. The special award for the best local production went to Tim Smit for the low budget music video Sabotage, made for the Tilburg band Daybroke.
‘Playgrounds was a joy and surely measures up to the big festivals in the world’, says Motionographer, which is a great compliment. That Playgrounds Festival 2010 was fun is a fact. We would like to thank all the guests, volunteers, sponsors and all other people involved with the festival. But most of all we would like to thank and praise all the visitors without whom it would never have been such a great success.
Thank you and we’ll see you in 2011!
