United Visual Artists

United Visual Artists (UVA) are a London-based art and design practice creating large-scale light-based installations. They explore the relationship between space, the performer and the audience and aim to create a powerful social experience, turning the audience into active participants.

Commissioned by the Victoria & Albert Museum and Sony Playstation United Visual Artist created 'Volume', a luminous interactive installation which is currently touring internationally. 'Chorus' is their most recent project, an array of motor-assisted pendulums, suspended from the roof, swing through the space of the Howard Assembly Room in Leeds (Opera North), emitting light and sound. The rhythm revolves from chaos to unison, producing a hypnotic performance to heighten the viewer's awareness of space and their relationship with it.

United Visual Artist create on stage light-based installations as well, they've collaborated with musicians such as U2 (Vertigo World Tour), Kylie Minogue, Massive Attack, The Chemical Brothers, Maximo Park and Battles. In 2008 UVA designed the world tour of Massive Attack with a new stage set and a wide LED screen as centerpiece. The visuals as well as the computer controlled light – in perfect synch with the music – were made by UVA.

UVA will give an artist talk at Playgrounds at Friday the 9th of October.
